The Metropolitan Council has approved a plan to improve safety on Metro Transit buses and light rail trains. The plan comes as Metro Transit experienced a 54 percent increase in crime reports last year. “What people want when they're using transit is to know that there are people there that are able to help or intervene if necessary,” said Drew Kerr, spokesperson for Metro Transit. A pilot safety program started last fall is expected to expand to locations like the Brooklyn Center Transit Center.
